AUREOLE

Texas Tech University, Industrial Engineering Building, Lubbock, Tx

Industrial engineers plan, design and implement complex systems for a given industry, in effect streamlining and optimizing these systems in various capacities. By extracting various visual components reflecting the vernacular of blueprints, physics, formulas, calculations, machinery, and diagrams, all of which are utilitarian in nature, Aureole reconfigures them to create a new artistic expression. Aureole, or “enlightened circle,” employs these symbols from various fields and arranges them in a circular composition, evoking a mandala, which historically, is symbolic of a diagram or chart. This form represents a wholeness or holistic approach to its creation, whereby every piece of the equation is balanced and weighed against the other, defining the final solution.
