BOTHAM JEAN

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Dallas, TX

We were commissioned by PwC to create a memorial piece of artwork to honor the memory and spirit of Botham Jean, a PwC Dallas employee who was tragically murdered in his own home. It was most important to PwC that 'Bo's' warmth and his smile, two huge traits of his personality, shine through in this work. We were inspired by Jean’s loving spirit expressed in his life, work, community, and service. Bo is remembered by his family, church, college, and workplace as a generous, devoted, and hardworking man who gave back to his community. The work features a pointillist, relief portrait of Bo, composed of sculptural dowels milled from oak. The ends of each dowel are painted with hues drawn from the colors related to cultural traditions of Bo’s native St. Lucia, such as textiles, architecture, and festivals (La Rose and La Marguerite), to create a colorful pointillist composition. The intertwining of Texas oak and these vibrant colors poetically evokes his connection to both St. Lucia and Dallas, where he lived, worked, and became an important member of the community.
